HBO has done this before (to widespread acclaim) with True Detective (2014)

Attacks by various guests and employees of a luxury resort over the course of a week.. HBO renewed the series for a second season, even though the show was intended to be a limited one-season miniseries. The show is said to be an anthology-style series with new characters for each season.
Honestly, "reviewers"?
This show is a real HBO show. It’s quirky, offbeat, well-written, beautifully acted, and naked, warts and all. I found that reviewers fell into two categories – love it or hate it.
This is adult satire
"Love it" praised it for what I praised it for (above). "Hate it" didn’t like the fact that you don’t have a joke, then laugh, then joke, then laugh. When reviewers write that you can’t find anything about the characters that you like, that’s the idea.
Don’t you like breaking the water?
You should consider why you don’t like them. You shouldn’t like what they do (or if you’re a little twisted, love what they do). Brilliantly written by Mike White, it exposes the underbelly of people, but still shows worthy people in the same context.
It’s a natural phenomenon
White confuses humanity with the absurdity and covers it with a sheen of money, power, and humility. These actors are willing to be bad people, honest people, people on the edge of their seats, and people trying to figure out what life has in store for them. I’ve only watched two episodes, and I feel like this show could go any direction, and I still love it.
