Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads to them becoming lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew” and more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s young siblings is the same one Chewbacca’s family sees in the infamous “Star Wars Holiday Special” (1978). Included in AniMat’s Crazy Cartoon Cast: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022). I’m approaching this review with caution, as I’m aware that “Skeleton Crew” appears to be aimed at a younger audience. While kids might enjoy the film, I found the first four episodes quite disappointing. The story lacks depth, feeling more like a kids’ film that jumps from place to place without much consequence. The war backdrop feels superficial and the action sequences don’t have the impact they should have. The acting, while not bad, could be better, especially given the caliber of some of the cast. Even Jude Law seems half-hearted at times. The production design is impressive, but can’t save a story that feels slow and ultimately forgettable. Perhaps the series will get better later on, but after my first viewing, I’m not convinced. Please prove me wrong!
